The Country We Did Not Expect
We ship worldwide from Australia. When we pulled a year of order data by country, the top two were unsurprising: Australia with 6,570 orders and the United States with 1,472.
Fourth place was Norway.
A country of roughly 5.5 million people placed 263 orders, ahead of New Zealand at 149, Germany at 141 and Sweden at 121. Germany has around fifteen times Norway's population.

Norway is fifth by order count, and it also has the second-highest average order value of any market with meaningful volume, at $136.57 against Australia's $114.82.
It Is Not a Traffic Fluke
The obvious explanation would be that something sent us a burst of Norwegian traffic. The conversion data rules that out.

Norway converts at 1.46%, second only to our home market and nearly double the United States. Norwegian visitors are not browsing. They arrive intending to buy.
Even more striking is the comparison with Sweden, a neighbouring country with roughly twice the population and a comparable Muslim community. Sweden sent more sessions than Norway, 18,307 against 16,768, and converted at 0.57% against Norway's 1.46%. Same region, similar traffic, two and a half times the conversion.
What Might Explain It
We want to be honest that our data shows the pattern without explaining it. We can see what happened, not why. A few possibilities, offered as hypotheses rather than conclusions.
Limited local supply. Australia has a well-established modest fashion retail sector. Norway's is smaller, so buyers may be more willing to order internationally because the local alternative is thinner.
Higher tolerance for international shipping. Norwegians shop cross-border at high rates generally, and high incomes make international delivery costs less of a barrier. The $136.57 average order value is consistent with that.
Community concentration. Norway's Muslim population is concentrated around Oslo. A tightly networked community produces word-of-mouth effects that show up as unusually high conversion, because visitors arrive already recommended rather than discovering the site cold.
The Sweden comparison is what makes us favour the third explanation. Two similar countries, similar traffic, very different conversion. That pattern looks more like a recommendation network than like market economics.
Why We Are Publishing This
Modest fashion is usually discussed in terms of the Gulf, South Asia and the large Western Muslim populations in Britain, France and the United States. The Nordic market rarely appears in that conversation at all.
On our numbers it should. Norway alone outsold Germany, Sweden and New Zealand, and did it while spending more per order than almost anyone. If you sell modest fashion and you have written off small Nordic markets on population grounds, the data suggests that is a mistake.

Methodology
Order figures are from Shopify order data for fajrnoor.com, orders placed between 22 September 2025 and 21 September 2026, grouped by billing country. Session and conversion figures cover the same period, grouped by session country. Average order value is in Australian dollars.
This is one Australian retailer's data. It reflects where our marketing has reached and where our shipping is competitive, and it is not a measure of total modest-fashion demand in any country. A market can be large and simply not know we exist.
